The Institute mounts tailor-made courses to suit the needs of the specific entity requesting training.
The Institute has been engaged in capacity building of legal metrology personnel within the Eastern Africa region. In partnership with PTB(Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt) the Institute has trained legal metrology personnel from Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia in the fields of Type Approval, Initial Verifications and subsequent verifications of electronic weighing and measuring instruments. The (PTB) is the national metrology institute of Germany providing scientific and technical services as well as international cooperation in metrology.
In 2005, through the support of the PTB, two of the institute’s members carried out a two-week training program in Kigali, Rwanda, for legal metrologists in Rwanda and Burundi on the verification of mechanical weighing instruments.
In 2014 the Institute mounted a one month training for ten(10) officers from the Kenyan Defence Forces, KDF, in the installation, assembly and repair of mechanical fuel dispensing pumps.
In 2016, through the support of the PTB, six Rwandan legal metrologists attended one-month courses in Nairobi. Two officers were trained on type approval, initial verification, and re-verification while four officers had been trained on initial verification and re-verification of weighing instruments.
In 2017, through the support of the PTB, six legal metrologists from Ethiopia Metrology Institute attended a one-week course in Nairobi on Legal Metrology practices and management.
