- Examination Categories
There are three types of examination categories offered by the Institute;

- Qualifying examinations for persons intending to work for Legal metrology authorities as inspectors after a two year full time training in accordance with the legal metrology officers curriculum
- Examinations for short courses administered to persons working as legal metrology officers for legal metrology authorities
- Qualifying examinations for persons intending to work as service technicians for legal metrology instruments

Eligibility
- A Bachelor of Science /Technology degree in any of the following disciplines:- Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Instrumentation, Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic engineering, Law OR equivalent qualification from a recognized institution, and
- Production of a letter from a legal metrology training institution certifying that the trainee has completed the training requirements for Legal Metrology Curriculum.

TYPE 8 | Fixed storage tanks with incorporated gauging systems |
- Technicians Examination eligibility Criteria
EXAMINATION TYPE | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS | EXPERIENCE |
TYPE 1 | Form 4 Certificate; or
Class 8 Certificate with a vocational training centre certificate |
One year apprenticeship with a licensed company |
TYPE 2 | Type 1 License | At least one year working experience with a licensed company in the license category |
TYPE 3 | A certificate in electronics from a recognized institution | One year apprenticeship with a licensed company in the license category |
TYPE 4 | Form 4 Certificate | One year apprenticeship with a licensed company in the licence category |
TYPE 4B | Form 4 Certificate | One year apprenticeship with a licensed company in the license category |
TYPE 5 | Type 4 License | One year apprenticeship with a licensed company in the license category |
TYPE 6 | Type 4 License and a certificate in electronics from a recognized institution | One year apprenticeship with a licensed company in the license category |
TYPE 7 | A Diploma in any of the following fields; Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical or equivalent fields with software component | One year apprenticeship with a company authorized in the license category |
TYPE 8 | A Diploma in any of the following fields; Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical and equivalent fields with software component | One year apprenticeship with a company authorized in the license category |
